Challenge Overview
The design of a water bottle, alcohol bottle, or bottle packaging, in general, can be a fun way to practice and sharpen your Fusion 360 skills. Take a moment to look atRe-arranges screen to look at selected object. all the different bottles you have around the house. Think about how many different styles of disposable water bottles there are at a convenience or grocery store… or how many different types of detergent bottles there are.
Here are some different bottle types that you could use in this challenge:
- beer bottle
- water bottle (disposable or reusable)
- baby bottle
- soap bottle
- wine bottle
- shampoo bottle
- milk bottle
- pop/soda bottle
At some pointCreates a sketch point., someone had to 3D-model that bottle design in a CAD program, before it was sent off to be blow-molded, injection-molded, or manufactured with another method. Consider the viability of manufacturing with your bottle design.
Challenge A (Beginner)
The beginner challenge is meant for people with less than 6 months of Fusion 360 experience. If you’re one of them, use the drawing dimensions to reproduce this Wine Bottle as best as you can using the revolveRevolves a sketch profile or planar face around a selected axis. Select a profile or planar face then select the axis to revolve around. command.
Challenge B (Moderate)
Create your own unique bottle design or recreate a design you find on the internet. The bottle design does not need to be created with a specific command. Consider using multiple commands and techniques to make your bottle have multiple parts (ie. a bottom and a lid). Remember to make each part a new componentCreates a new empty component or converts existing bodies to components. When creating an empty component, enter a name and select the parent. When converting bodies, select the bodies to convert.. Be creative and don’t let the traditional water bottle design hold you back from creating something new.
Challenge C (Advanced)
Surface modeling is an advanced modeling technique used frequently in the packaging industry.
Surface modeling gives a CAD Designer more control over the exterior shape of a design. Detergent bottles often have complex curvature created with surface modeling. Take notice of all the different detergent bottle styles the next time you’re at a store.
Surface model a bottle from scratch. Watch the detergent bottle demo below if you want a simple demo to help get started. Take the challenge even further by rendering your bottle.
